    Abstract
A survey was conducted using a pre-tested interview schedule in the different area of Taragonj and Gongachara upazila under Rangpur district to record present status, problems and prospects and to formulate some suggestions about pigeon farming in the rural areas of Bangladesh, Data were collected from 15 pigeon farmer. House construction cost, height of house, duration of house, quantity of feed supplied to each pigeon/day, male female ratio, marketing age of squab, weight of each squab, price of each squab, number of squab/pair of pigeon, production of squab/year/pair of pigeon, price of each pigeon and mortality of pigeon were Tk. 134.2, 3.85m. 4.9 years. 33,67g, 0.95, 27.93 days, 258g, Tk.65.33, 1.6, 19.33, Tk. 111 and 7.33% respectively. Most of the pigeon farmers rear pigeon in small scale scavenging system and Farmers give supplementary feeding only. They have no idea about breed and variety of pigeon and prevention of any disease. There is a huge demand of squab meat in the market due to its delicacy and taste. For this reason, pigeon farming may be increased in future provided: government initiative to train farmers on management and extension of loans. Introduction of costly fancy meat breed, incorporation of more breed and varieties of pigeon, increased farm size and balanced feed for pigeon and squab needed to be ensured for improving cash income and employment generation.
