dc.description.abstract | The study was among the vegetable growers of four villages of Bishwanath Union of Bishwanath
Upazila of Sylhet district to know the extent of use of information media by the vegetable growers
and its relationship with different characteristics of the growers. A structural interview schedule was
used to collect data from of a sample of 100 vegetable growers of four villages. Seventeen
information media and eleven characteristics of the vegetable growers were included in study. The
correlation matrices were used to determine the relationship between selected characteristics of the
respondents (growers) and information media. The results of the study indicated that friends and
relatives, television, neighbors, mobile phone and SAAO came out as the first five effective
information media in receiving information on vegetable cultivation. As per classification of the
various media on their extent of use, the individual media ranked first and was followed by the mass
media and group media. Age and education of the vegetable growers had a negative relationship with
their use of information media. Where as age had negatively significant relationship with their use of
information media. Family size, farm size, annual income, organizational participation,
cosmopoliteness, innovativeness, training and coping with uncertainty of the vegetable growers had a
positive while family size, farm size, organizational participation, cosmopoliteness and innovativeness
had significant relationship with their use of information media. | en_US |
