    Abstract
The present study was undertaken to determine the farmer’s knowledge gap in cultivation of modern boro rice in the haor area and to explore the relationship between their characteristics like age, education, family size, farm size, family education, annual income, farming experience, agricultural training experience, attitude towards modern boro rice cultivation, contact with extension personnel and organizational participation with their knowledge gap in cultivation of modern boro rice. The study was conducted inTahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district. Data were collected through pre-tested interview schedule from a sample of randomly selected 100 farmers by face-to-face interview method. The researcher himself collected data during June, 2014 to July, 2014. Appropriate scales were developed in order to measure the variables. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient ‘r’ was computed to examine the relationship between the concerned variables. Half of the (50 percent) farmers had low knowledge gap followed by 40 percent of them having medium knowledge gap and 10 percent had high knowledge gap. Significant knowledge gap was evident in plant protection, fertilizer management and weeding & irrigation among the other content areas of modern boro rice production for which farmers could not harvest the potential yield of BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan29. Four characteristics of farmer viz. education, family education, farming experience and attitude towards modern boro rice cultivation had negative significant relationship with their knowledge gap in cultivation of modern boro rice. On the other hand, cosmopoliteness of the farmers had positive significant relationship with their knowledge gap on modern boro rice cultivation. Rest of the characteristics of the respondents had no significant relationship with their knowledge gap in cultivation of modern boro rice.
