| dc.description.abstract | Brucellosis is an economically important disease prevailing in Bangladesh.
Because of its economic impact on animal reproduction and the risk to the
human population, most countries have a brucellosis control program. The present study was carried out to determine the sero-prevalence of
brucellosis in dairy cattle in Food Security for the Sylhet district of
Bangladesh. A total of 120 dairy cattle sera samples were screened by
Brucella abortus antigen which is a confirmatory and rapid test for proper
diagnosis of the brucellosis. The overall serological prevalence derived
from the samples was 1.67%. In conclusion, it is observed that, a higher
prevalence of Brucellosis was found in aged animals than young; and
aborted animals compared to non-aborted animal. The result showed that
female animals were has more susceptible to infection of brucellosis. Some
future recommendation to address this disease were:
Regular sero-monitoring of the dairy cattle need to be carried out.
Positive reactors must not be used in breeding purposes.
Replacements should be made with dairy cattle free from Brucella
infection.
People involved in dairy cattle husbandry and meat handlers should
not be handled anything without gloves if there is any suspection of
brucellosis.
Livestock rearing personnel’s which are involved with dairy
industry should be cautious about brucellosis.
Programs to raise awareness about this disease should be conducted.
Further studies for isolation, identification and typing of specific
Brucella sp. are also recommended. | en_US |
