    VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS OF SMALL RUMINANT ESPECIAL EMPHASIZED ON EPIDEMIOLOGY AND MOLECULAR DETECTION OF PPRV IN DIFFERENT OUTBREAKS

    Abstract
    Value chain analysis of goat was carried out in three village- Bashunda (Narayangonj) and Pouly and Chamta (Manikgoanj). Number of interviewee farmers- 56 of Bashunda village,100 of Pouly village farmers and 60 of Chamta village were selected for base line data analysis. Among them 70% farmers were marginal land holder (total land is 0.05- 0.49 acres) in study area. About 80% farmers in study area dependent on agriculture for their living. 70% farmers of Bashunda village, 82% farmers of Pouly and 72% farmers of chamta village used tin as building material. During the study period, 26.92% in Bashunda, 82% in Pouly and 28.66% in Chamta villagers reared their animals in confined system; whereas, 67.30% in Bashunda,18.00% in Pouly and 16.66% in Chamta villagers practiced mixed type rearing system. On the other hand, 5.76% in Bashunda, 0.00% in Pouly and 61.66% farmers reared their animals in free grazing system. 48% farmers of Bashunda; 20% farmers of Pouly and 30% of Chamta graze their animal in free grazing place. 34% farmers of Bashunda, 36% farmers of Pouly and 48% farmers of Chamta also graze goat in empty crop fields. It was very alarming that 77% farmers or middleman got treatment for their animal from quack and only 4% farmer got treatment from Veterinary Hospital in study area. For value chain analysis, 20 middleman in each study area were interviewed. Most of the farmer sold goat to middleman or middleman collected goat from farmer house and sold them in different hat (market) or directly to other middleman or to butcher. Marketing Channel involved different person like Farmer, middleman (1 stage middleman), butcher and Whole seller. In Manikgoanj, around 7% middleman were usually bought goat for rearing and fattening purpose and then sold and 92% middleman were sold goat directly in market. In st stage and 2 nd Narayangoanj, few middleman, around 6% sold their animal directly at different market places like danga, Shekher chor, Deboi and Ghorasal and 93% middleman rear their goat for fattening purpose and then sold. During study period it was investigated different outbreaks of PPR in whole country especially in Dhaka District and samples were tested using RT-PCR technique. Number of tested sample was 23, among them 20 samples were positive and 3 samples were negative.
