    Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the field of Regional Station of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Habigonj, during the period from December, 2012 to May, 2013 to evaluate the effect of NKS nutrients on the growth and yield of BRRI dhan29. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. There were six treatments viz. N85P38K50S9, P38K50S9 (-N), N85P38S9(-K), N85P38K50(-S), P38S9(-NK) and N0P0K0S0 (control). Results indicated that N, K and S alone or in combination significantly affected the growth, yield and yield contributing characters of BRRI dhan29. Number of tillers hill -1 gradually increased with the age of plant up to 90 DAT then slightly decreased at crop maturity. The highest number of tillers hill -1 was observed in N85P38K50S9 and the lowest was in N0P0K0S0. Dry weights of leaves, stems as well as total dry weight of plants were recorded the highest in the treatment N85P38K50S9 and the lowest was in N0P0K0S0. Dry weight of panicles hill -1 was the highest in N85P38K50S9 and the lowest was in P38K50S9(-N). The highest plant height (108.4 cm) was noted in N85P38K50S9 while the lowest (89.8 cm) was in N0P0K0S0. The highest number (12.66) of effective tillers hill -1 was recorded in N85P38K50S9 and the lowest (9.0) was in P38K50S9(-N). The highest (27.0 cm) and lowest (19.83 cm) panicle length were noted in N85P38K50S9 and N0P0K0S0, respectively. Number of grains panicle -1 was recorded the highest (141.2) in N85P38K50S9 and the lowest (119.0) was in N0P0K0S0. Thousand grains weight was the highest (23.77 g) in N85P38K50S9 and the lowest (22.0 g) was in P38K50S9(-N). Grain and straw yields were recorded the highest -1 (8.40 and 10.1 t ha ) in N85P38K50S9 and the lowest (5.5 and 6.5 t ha -1 ) in P38S9(-NK), respectively. Thus the treatment combining NPKS had the best growth and yield performance among the treatments.
