EVALUATION OF LABLAB BEAN GENOTYPES IN EARLY AND LATEPLANTING CONDITIONS FOR POD AND SEED PRODUCTION
Abstract
The present experiment was conducted with a view to evaluating pod and seed production of eight lablab bean
genotypes viz. SB003, SB010, SB011, BP003, IPSA Sheem-2, Auto, Rupvan and Kanchan during winter season
from July, 2014 to February, 2015 at the experimental field of Horticulture Department, Sylhet Agricultural
University (SAU), Sylhet. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with
three replications. Among the genotypes, variation in relation to petiole length, cotyledon color, main stem
pigmentation, leaflet size and shape, flower color, inflorescence length, pod color, pod size and shape, seed
color, seed size and shape etc. was observed. During early planting in winter season, six genotypes viz. SB003,
SB010, SB011, Auto, Rupvan and Kanchan were used for evaluating pod yield. Pod yield and yield attributes
greatly varied among the genotypes. For days to first flowering, the highest was recorded for the genotype of
SB003 (55 days) which was followed by the genotype of Kanchan (54 days). The lowest was recorded for the
genotypes of SB010 and SB011 (51 days). The number of green seeds per pod was almost similar. It was ranged
from 4.6 cm (SB011) to 4.2 cm (Rupvan). The highest number of pod per plant was recorded for the genotype of
Kanchan (202.7) while it was lowest for the genotype of SB011 (53.67). Among the genotypes, the highest
individual pod weight was recorded from Auto (18.2 gm.) which was followed by Kanchan (9.6 gm.). It was
lowest for the genotype SB010 (6.8 gm.). All the genotypes required almost 76 days to first harvest and
harvesting duration was around 100 days. Harvesting was done in ten times. The highest pod yield was recorded
from the genotype Auto (23.05 t/ha) which was followed by the genotype Kanchan (19.26 t/ha) while it was the
lowest for the genotype SB011 (5.42 t/ha). During late planting in winter season, four genotypes viz. SB010,
SB003, BP003 and IPSA Sheem-2 were used for evaluating seed yield. Days to first flowering for all genotypes
was recorded 46 days except SB003 (41 days). Among the genotypes, first harvest was done in 84 days and
harvesting duration was 71 days. In dry pod, eight times harvesting was done. Oval shape of seed was noted for
all genotypes except IPSA Sheem-2 (round). The highest 100 seed weight was recorded from the genotype
SB010 (35.67 gm.) while it was the lowest for the genotype IPSA Sheem-2 (27.0 gm.). Seed yield was the
highest recorded from the genotype SB010 (1.75 t/ha) followed by the genotype BP003 (0.90 t/ha) while it was
the lowest for the genotype SB003 (0.52 t/ha). During early planting in winter season, after first harvesting of
pod 50 gm. pod was taken for nutritional analysis. After analysis, 100 gm. of Auto contain the highest Cu (30.56
ppm), Fe (244.44 ppm), Mn (81.48 ppm), B (121.2 ppm) and S (0.316 %) which was followed by the genotype
SB011; Cu (23.62 ppm), Fe (188.88 ppm), Mn (62.96 ppm), B (66.0 ppm) and S (0.176 %). In case of Zn, it was
the highest for 100 gm. SB003 (123.72 ppm) followed by the genotype SB011 (120.6 pm). The highest Ca was
found for the genotype Auto (3.34 %) which was followed by the genotype SB003 (3.22 %). For 100 gm. Mg, it
was the highest for SB011 (1.57 %) which was followed by the genotype SB003 (1.35 %).
