PERFORMANCE OF TOMATO YELLOW LEAF CURL VIRUS (TYLCV)RESISTANT SUMMER TOMATO LINES AND THEIR SHELF LIFE
Abstract
An investigation was carried out at the experimental field of Olericulture division of Horticulture Research
Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Gazipur during summer season from June
2013 to November 2013 with a view to evaluateing the performance of TYLCV resistant summer tomato
genotypes and their shelf life in Gazipur condition. Variations in relation to plant, floral, fruit, yield and
yield contributing characters were observed among the genotypes. Days to 50% flowering ranged from
15.00 days to 27.00 days after transplanting. Yield and yield attributes of the genotypes differed
significantly. The highest number of fruits per plant was recorded from the genotype BARI Hybrid Tomato8
(21.67) followed by CLN-3791 (18.33) while the genotype CLN-3859 and CLN-3906 both equally
produced the minimum number of fruits per plant (7.33). Wide variation was recorded for single fruit
weight among the genotypes. The highest single fruit weight was recorded in the genotype CLN-3791
(83.33 g) and the lowest single fruit weight was 48.67 g obtained from the line CLN-3860. Among the 12
genotypes the highest total soluble solids (5.33%) was recorded from the genotype CLN-3859 while, the
lowest (3.67%) from CLN-3735. Significant variation was observed among different genotypes in respect of
fruit yield per plant. Fruit yield per plant of different genotypes ranged from 0.436 kg to 1.616 kg. The
genotype CLN-3791 yielded the highest amount of fruits per plant (1.616 kg/plant) which was close to
CLN-3735 (1.496 kg/plant) and CLN-3792 (1.496 kg/plant). From this study it was found that the genotype
CLN-3862 showed highest shelf life of 18.33 days. Correlation analysis for yield and yield attributes were
estimated in this study. Number of fruits per plant and single fruit weight had positive and highly significant
correlation with yield per plant but both positive and negative association with other attributes. Fruit length,
fruit breath and total soluble solid had a negative correlation with fruit yield while number of locules had
positive correlation with fruit yield.
